Anya Hindmarch

I am sure many of you are aware Anya Hindmarch is one of the world’s foremost designers thanks to her eponymous label, Anya Hindmarch. We were lucky enough to have Anya visit the college yesterday evening where she shared pearls of wisdom about her success for the benefit of our students.

“Aged 18, Hindmarch travelled to Italy where she found a vintage bag that she believed other women would want to buy. After sending the bag to Harpers & Queen, who featured it in an issue, she received 500 orders for the style and, so, her business began. At 19 she opened her first shop in a small unit on London’s Walton Street and has since progressed to 56 stores worldwide, including two flagship stores on Sloane Street and Bond Street in London.”

Anya’s luxury global brand is known for its creativity, craftsmanship, personalisation and humour.

Each year Anya designs three mainline handbag collections, as well as shoes, luggage, small leather goods, beach and range of ready-to-wear collections. Each design fits in with the company’s ethos of beautiful craftsmanship and acute attention to detail. Anya Hindmarch Bespoke embodies the brand’s main values: craftsmanship, beautiful materials and pieces that are made especially for the recipient.
Anya was awarded the Veuve Clicquot Business Woman of the Year Award 2012 and the Harpers Bazaar Business Woman of the Year award 2012, also an MBE in 2009 in recognition of her contribution to the British Fashion Industry.

Not only a successful business woman and mother to five children, Anya has also set up charity initiatives, is trustee to the RA and Design Museum amongst many other things! Needless to say, I am delighted to have Anya as a Governor of this University, and that she was able to be with us at London College of Fashion.
