Ryan Lo – LFW

For me, one of the standout shows of London Fashion Week was LCF graduate Ryan Lo.
His collections are always so recognisable, with his blend of romantic fantasy, confectionary colours and pop culture references.
This season Lo was inspired by his childhood memories growing up in Hong Kong, drawing inspiration from Mulan and Chinese TV drama My Little Princess.
There were cherry-blossom florals everywhere, from drop-waist dresses to oversize puffer-coats in quilted satin – a modern take on empresses’ robes.

I really like Lo’s confident take on femininity – it is fun and playful, and goes against the current trend for clean, neutral minimalism.
After leaving LCF, Lo spent three seasons with the prestigious Fashion East scheme, and is now an established NEWGEN recipient – this season marked his third successive award of full catwalk sponsorship.
It’s good to see young designers making the most of the great infrastructure London has to offer, and equally nice to see Lo making the most of his opportunities. Definitely one to watch.
